Wake up Sarajevo! Nature Calling!
Our Urban (eco)Commons Hub “Hastahana Park” proposal received an honourable mention in the latest international competition in Sarajevo, as the only awarded project from Bosnia & Herzegovina selected out of 79 entries from all over the world.
Our concept for a citizen-led initiative for Urban Ecological Resilience, learns from the site’s use as an urban farm during the Siege of Sarajevo (1992-1995) and radically re-thinks Hastahana Park and other neglected public spaces in Sarajevo’s Centre as productive and carbon-neutral Urban (eco)Commons Hubs for resilience and well-being, to combat the city’s environmental, social and economic crises. Eco Hub “Hastahana” is an off-grid sustainable park, with a focus on urban agriculture, education, well-being and circular economies. It is much more than a park! This is part of a walkable network of Eco-Commons Hubs across Sarajevo Centre, reducing the necessity for vehicles and carbon emissions in an over polluted city.
We are committed to developing imaginative and provocative sustainable urban strategies for challenging times of perpetual uncertainty. Architecture can play a key role in building resilience in society. Our proposal is adaptable and can be implemented in other public spaces in the city. We hope that this recognition will be a way to start new conversations about sustainable urban development on other sites in Sarajevo. More details coming soon…
