Little Library Apartment

Little Library Apartment

Sarajevo

In the heart of Sarajevo in an Austro-Hungarian era building we were commissioned to create two large furniture interventions which would transform the daily lives of two young Creatives, an Artist and a Writer.

Between them, they arrived to Sarajevo with a library worth of books and a collection of pieces which required controlled and clever display and storage. The key challenge was to ensure these interventions were on the perimeter walls to leave ample free flowing open space for their work and lives. As a backdrop to their daily lives, these pieces were designed to simply and precisely fit into the existing space and create a template for future storage expansion.

The Library displays their stunning collection of art books and special editions while above and below offers calculated storage to store and archive as much of their collection as possible.

The mirrored wardrobe in the bedroom creates a backdrop to reflect the beautiful collage of the City and Mountains beyond. By not adding a ‘new material’ this piece aims to reflect the space as it is and the environment outside. The integrated mirrored bathroom door and angled unit above create a ‘fun house’ experience with a hall of mirrors effect, a moment of joy within the daily experience. The apartment is an exhibition of vintage and contemporary archival pieces from the couples personal collection of art and design objects.
