Observation Nest

 OBSERVATION NEST

TYPE \ Competition YEAR \ 2018 LOCATION \ Kemeri National Park, Latvia COLLABORATORS \ Kenan Muslic STATUS \ Open international competition AWARD \ Not awarded

This observation tower forms an intimate relationship with its context. The project is inspired by the nests of the protected White Stork, native to Latvia and the Kemeri National Park (KNP).  Evoking the essence of traditional folklore and fairytales, this subtle intervention draws on the vernacular cultural heritage and thatch architecture of the KNP surrounding area. Rather than building a multi-storey tower, this project is a subtle addition to the existing natural landscape, which provides a gentle rise in viewing levels along newly designed boardwalks, which culminate in a circular ribbon-like viewing platform surrounding a large nest structure.
